Lasik Eye Surgery - What is It?

Lasik eye surgery is where you can have your eyesight surgically enhanced or corrected using laser surgery. Most adults rely on their eyesight more than any other sense and the types of deterioration that can be suffered from are many and varied. Thankfully laser surgery can correct such problems as short and long sightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia and cataracts.

People with short sightedness can see things at short distances but have challenges seeing things further away. Similarly people with long sightedness are fine with long distance but have difficulty seeing things a short distance away. Both these problems are caused by the lens and the cornea being either too strong or too weak and are correctable by using Lasik eye surgery.

Astigmatism is where you are both short and long sighted at the same time and the lens throws images both in front of and behind the retina at the same time causing constant blurring.

Presbyopia is the natural aging process that occurs in all eyes. How many people do you know that once they reach their early forties or so, need to look at some kind of reading glasses as they have a challenge focusing? With age the lens in your eye becomes less and less flexible. This condition is usually picked up as you will experience the need to hold things further and further away from your eyes in order to read it.

Cataracts are usually suffered by people over the age of 55. In fact 60% of those over the age of 65 suffer from this condition. Cataracts result from the natural break down of the protein structure which forms the lens causing the lens to become cloudy and difficult to see from. Once the lens becomes cloudy, the light cannot enter the eye and vision becomes very blurred.

All of the above conditions can be treated simply with Lasik eye surgery, all you need to do now is find the right provider to suit your needs.

The information needed to decide whether laser eye surgery is right for you is available at our website. There you will find the pros and cons of this type of corrective lasik eye surgery and help you to decide on your course of action.

Keeping Your Foreign Staff Connected

In a recent study, a number of Relocation Professionals were asked about their company's working relationship with staff members on foreign assignment. With over 200 responses, when asked "What aspects of working in China and India were most difficult for their foreign staff," 31% of the respondents cited "a disconnection from their head office communication and culture."

Bridging communication with overseas employees may seem like a difficult roadblock to overcome. But with a little creativity, a wealth of tools and information can be utilized by both Relocation Professionals and foreign staff members. Here are some tips to help keep the line of communication open and positive when dealing with overseas assignments:

Let's Talk!

Many Relocation Professionals appoint a "Home Office Mentor," ideally a senior level manager who is tasked with staying in touch with the expatriate, by phone, video conference, SkypeTM or email. They schedule monthly meetings or regular conference calls. By doing so, the mentor keeps the foreign staff in the loop on recent changes and announcements and provides an opportunity for them to provide feedback to the head office. It establishes an ongoing interaction that both the staff member and employer can look forward to. It also provides an opportunity to "catch up" with each others' lives, both professionally and socially.

Got Media?

In this day and age where multiple forms of communication technology are literally at our fingertips, staying in contact with the home office, family and friends is a lot easier than many expats and transferee's may believe. With Blackberries, instant messaging, emails, photo-sharing websites and intranets, as well as video conferencing and satellite hook-ups, living thousands of miles away from the rest of your team may seem like any other day at the office.

Swati Pathak, Corporate Services & India Specialist at Crown, relocated with her family from Bangalore to the U.S. She is currently on assignment in Seattle, Washington. When asked how she stays in touch with her friends and family in Bangalore, she replied, "This is easier than we had thought. Long distance from U.S. to India is not as expensive as it used to be five years ago. We call as often as we feel like. High-speed internet service allows us to chat on messengers and do video as well!"

Read all about it...

Newsletters are common tools that allow worldwide staff and organization members to know what is going on with the company or home country. Many Relocation professionals use Newsletters to provide Company News (staff changes, new services, etc.), Environmental Events (travel warnings, safety tips, etc.), Assignment Notices (reminders on benefits, tax filings, etc.) and even Social News (weddings, births, engagements, retirements, etc.) to their assignees.

A newsletter takes time and resources to put together and a busy staff may not have a chance to work on such an initiative. For the busy professional, one approach to this task is to "Keep is simple." Avoid the fancy format of a traditional Newsletter. Set up an Email group to the foreign staff and simply send monthly E-mail announcements. Names like "All About Acme" or "Corporate Chatter" could be used on each monthly email to give it a sense of formality. Another option to consider is outsourcing the newsletter duties to a communications or relocations provider.

These are just a few tips that can help keep the lines of communication open between a transferee and his home office. Relocation professionals know that every international assignment is unique and may require individual consideration. But following the tips outlined may go a long way in helping foreign staff to stay connected.

Bleeding Dyes Can Ruin Your Carpet

Carpet is a great flooring but can be affected by a number of different things. Things that can cause it harm and even permanently damage it. One of those things is bleeding dye. This can come from a number of different sources and is serious problem Read this article to learn a little about this problem and what you can do about it.

The first thing you need to do is discover the source of bleeding dye. It can be caused by several different common things in your home. One source is area rugs. Dyes from area rugs can easily transfer to the carpet with moisture. There might even be enough moisture in the air on a humid day to cause it . The most common types of rugs that bleed are expensive oriental rugs. To prevent this type of damage you should be sure to place a rug mat underneath the area rug. This will keep it form transferring dye in case the rug were to get wet. Another source of dye transfer is from labels on the bottom of furniture. To prevent this from happening always check the bottom of anything you place on your carpe for labels and tags. If they are present, remove them. The last source of dye transfer that I will talk about is furniture. Some furniture can bleed dye. This is usually the case with fabric furniture that has no legs or with skirts that touch the ground. To prevent this type of damage try to use furniture with legs that keep it a little distance above the carpet.

Carpet dye transfer is usually a permanent problem. Unfortunately the dye can seldom be completely removed so the best thing to do is preen the damage. Take a little care and put a little thought into your carpet though and you should be just fine. Good luck.

Failure to Diagnose or Delay in Diagnosis of Cancer (Causing Exacerbation of Disease or Death)

Some of the types of cancer that are particularly responsive to early treatment include breast cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, testicular cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer.

Damages caused by failure to promptly diagnose cancer
Unfortunately, not every cancer patient is diagnosed in time for these early stage treatments. Many patients suffer from serious damages and even death as a result of failure to diagnose cancer, or delays in that diagnosis. Left untreated, even the most treatable forms of cancer are often ultimately deadly.

Patients whose cancers are not diagnosed in their early stages are often subjected to extended courses of painful, disfiguring, and debilitating treatments, including chemotherapy, strong medications, and major surgery.

For example, in many cases, early stage breast cancer can be effectively eliminated with only minor surgery to excise the cancerous tissue. If that breast cancer is not diagnosed until later stages, however, treatment can consist of mastectomy (removal of the breast), extensive chemotherapy, and other treatments, sometimes with little chance of survival.

Failure to diagnose cancer or delayed diagnosis of cancer may be the result of any of a number of issues, including failure to order appropriate tests, negligence in handling or reading test samples, misdiagnosis of symptoms, or other types of medical negligence.

How to get help
If you or someone you love suffered damages as a result of a failure or delay in cancer diagnosis, you may be able to recover some compensation for the physical, emotional, and financial damages you've suffered.

It is important that you act quickly, however, to preserve your right to take action against those who harmed you, and to preserve the evidence you need to prove your case in a court of law.

If you or a family member has suffered injury or death as a result of a late cancer diagnosis, contact an experienced medical malpractice attorney as soon as possible. He or she can help you gather the information you need and determine whether you have a cause of action to sue for damages.

Serious Skin Care Product Basics

What's the difference between a serious skin care product and something else? Who says any skin care product isn't serious? Whether dealing with acne, aging, wrinkles, scars or anything else, skin care is always serious to the person dealing with any particular issue.

These days, thousands of skin care products line grocery store and drug store shelves, their fancy colors and packaging beckoning to the vanity found in all of us. Fresher skin, softer hair, smoother skin, no more wrinkles, whatever the case may be, there's a product out there designed and created just for you!

Many different types of skin issues afflict billions of the world's inhabitants, and who's to say what's serious or not. A mild or severe case of acne is still acne, and the same goes for freckles, lines, crow's feet, laugh lines and frown lines. What one person may consider a mild skin condition might be devastating for another. So, when it all comes down to basics, all skin care products are serious.

That being said, not all of those products that line those shelves are worth their packaging, or their price tag. Keep one thing first and foremost in your thoughts if you're looking for anti-wrinkle or anti-aging skin care products, or those meant to replenish, re-moisturize or re-hydrate the skin. They all must contain some form of Retin or Vitamin A to be worth anything. Even then, it will take months of constant use before you may see a difference, so patience is the key if you're trying to reverse the natural effects of aging. Also keep in mind that nothing will make wrinkles or lines disappear, but certain skin products will plump up skin cells to lessen the appearance of those lines and wrinkles.

For those who suffer from mild to severe cases of acne, products that contain alpha-hydroxy components will work best. Try to stay away from products that contain alcohol, as those may cause even further drying to the skin. There are other whitening creams and ointments out there that will reduce the appearance of freckles and scars, but again, long term use is recommended for best results.

Whether you decide to go for nationally know cosmetic brands or you want to try generic, or even natural, organic products, always read the label to determine ingredients. Make sure that you are not allergic to any of those listed, and then, to be on the safe side, perform a skin test with your new product before you apply it to large areas of your skin, not matter whether it's made for face or body care.

Yes, skin care is serious business, but search for products with a little healthy skepticism. Don't believe everything you read, whether it's in your favorite glamour magazine or not. Learn to identify major ingredients and how they work on your skin. You don't have to be a chemist to learn a few terms and basic compounds, but you do need to use common sense when choosing particular products, especially those that you use on your skin.

Your skin is important -- educate yourself on the right serious skin care product now. Find out more at http://LetsTalkSkinCare.com.
