The Nutritional Facts Concerning Bronchitis

Inflammation of the mucous membranes in the bronchial tree (the deep inner lung passages) is called Bronchitis.

Bronchitis comes in two forms, either acute or chronic. Viral and bacterial infections normally cause acute bronchitis which is normally a relatively mild inflammation. Sometimes irritation from environmental fumes such as tobacco smoke, acid and solvent fumes can also cause acute bronchitis. Symptoms normally happen in the winter months and follow on from a cold. Bronchitis typically begins with a dry cough which then persists in frequencies producing yellow-green mucus due to the inflammation of the mucous membranes lining in the bronchi. A wheeze and shortness of breath may also occur due to the narrowing of the airways. A slight fever and soreness behind the breast bone are other common symptoms.

Long term exposure to environmental and industrial toxins such as cigarette smoking and inhaled pollutants can cause chronic irritation of the bronchi causing chronic bronchitis. Chronic bronchitis produces excess mucus and a productive cough on a daily basis for a long period of time; it is a long-term lung problem. Other symptoms of chronic bronchitis are breathlessness, chest pain, wheezing and sometimes coughing up blood.

People with compromised immune systems, the elderly, babies, people who are exposed to environmental pollutants and those who already suffering from a lung ailment are more prone to bronchitis and should see their doctor if bronchitis develops.

Symptoms may be relieved by drinking plenty of fluids and participating in steam inhalation with added menthol or eucalyptus. This will help to break up the mucus. Stopping smoking, cutting out mucus forming foods such as dairy products, eating plenty of immune boosting fruit and vegetables plus oily fish which contain anti-inflammatory properties will also be beneficial. Studies have shown that by breast feeding your baby, lung infections can be reduced throughout early childhood.

The following supplements may help if you are suffering from Bronchitis.

Echinacea
Eucalyptus
Garlic
Multivitamins and multiminerals
N-acetyl cysteine (NAC)
Vitamin A (Should be avoid by pregnant women or women planning pregnancy)
Vitamin C lozenges

Long-Range Wireless LAN - Cost-Effective Solution for Rural Internet Access?

Long-Range Wireless LAN: cost-effective solution for rural internet access?

Is it finally the answer for cost-effective internet access in remote regions?

The physical and geographic location of some remote regions of the world has made it difficult to establish a reliable communication link thus depriving it full benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Linking remote communities to the so-called communications highway by landline or by any of the available fixed-line systems is simply expensive and financially not viable. The reality of few subscribers in rural areas can dampen every investors enthusiasm.

Notwithstanding the phenomenal growth of cellular-mobile phones that brought tremendous impact to communication, high speed connection to the internet, is very much limited with early generation GSM/CDMA phones and to some extent next generation mobile wireless networks. It would take years for 3G technology to make an impact in remote regions.

In order to catch-up with the ICT bandwagon, fill-in the demand for broadband connectivity and services in un-served areas, an opportunity awaits to be tap by utilizing long-range Wireless LAN (WLAN) and long-range cordless telecom platforms (also called as phone extender) which are fast gaining ground as a reliable, secure and cost-effective alternative to delivering broadband communications services in remote areas.

This articles aims to harness and leverage new emerging Long-Range Wireless LAN technology to compliment existing fixed-line network resources and improve delivery of data communications in remote regions of the world.

Discover how Long-Range Wireless LAN will answer the requirement for a true cost-effective solution internet access in remote regions.

WIFI INDOOR VS OUTDOOR LONG-RANGE WIRELESS LAN PLATFORM:

There are two types of Wireless LAN which is synonymous to short-range and long-range communication: indoor and outdoor.

Indoor type equipment refers to traditional device, as the word suggest, connotes limited transmission coverage within 30-50m and up to 900m when fitted with outdoor antenna. However, being fitted with outdoor antenna does not make them true outdoor equipment. Synchronization and reliable operation are sometimes sacrificed. Indoor-type Wireless LAN equipment are "off-the-shelf", commercially available equipment that can be obtained from computer dealers. It is designed purely for indoor use.

The second type is outdoor long-range Wireless LAN. The difference lies in the design and intended application. Some WLAN manufacturers are concentrating on making outdoor equipment, designing them for maximum transmission coverage while maintaining data throughput.

Outdoor Long-Range Wireless LAN is designed to be robust, resilient, reliable, secure and weatherproof. As "true-outdoor" unit (as oppose to indoor fitted with outdoor antenna), both radio unit and antenna are installed outdoors utilizing Power-over-Ethernet (POE note: power is feed via CAT 5 cable) thus resulting in minimal gain loss because of their shorter antenna cables.

Depending on the radiated power (250mW to 1 watt to 4 watts) and antenna-type (Omni, Flat-Panel, Yagi, Parabolic and Dish) range can reach from 9km to 60km long enough to reach remote areas. Data transmission speed varies though with up to 11Mbps max for 802.11b model with auto-fallback going 5.5 or 2Mbps sacrificing speed/throughput in favor of reliable transmission and up to 54Mbps and 108Mbps (in turbo-mode) for some 802.11g/a model also with auto-fallback.

Outdoor Long-Range Wireless LAN on bridge and point-to-point mode can reach as much as 60Km transmission distance in open terrain (line-of-sight). Truly, Long-Range Wireless LAN is a cost-effective solution for rural internet access.

Truck Driver Training for Accident Prevention

Truck driver training is the single most important factor one should consider when contemplating a future in truck driving careers. Many believe that after a three week course, they are ready to tackle the road as an operator of an 80,000 pound vehicle. Reality, soon sets in. . .sometimes at a serious cost. Much more skill is needed than simply jumping in the drivers seat and going through the gears.

According to reports from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS), crashes involving large trucks are increasing. Sadly, fatalities by large truck crashes are also on the rise. As we move into the Summer months, and school lets out for our children across the country, professional drivers need to be aware and take extra precautions in their driving.

Truck crashes make headlines. If one was to look at the whole picture, you would actually see that the safest driver on the road is the professional truck driver. For the most part, the professional truck driver averages 130,000 miles per year, compared to 15,000 miles per year for the car driver. There are many statistics available showing crash analysis, but it normally fails to explain who was actually at fault. The large majority of the time, the accident or crash is the fault of the car driver. The reason being, is that the auto drivers simply do not understand the mechanics of operating a large motor vehicle. In fact, according to the Federal Highway Administration and the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration, fatality crashes between cars and large trucks are the fault of the driver of the car . . . 71% of the time!

All too often, our smaller counter parts, will swerve in front of the large truck suddenly decreasing their stopping distance or safe distance, thus causing a rear-ended collision. Another favorite of auto drivers is to pull out in front of an oncoming semi, not understanding that a vehicle weighing 80,000 pounds cannot stop on a dime. Also, the general public seems to not understand about the blind spots on a tractor-trailer, always attempting to squeeze around them to get through.

Truck driver training shows us that the average automobile traveling at 60 MPH on good road conditions, is covering 88 feet per second. It will take that automobile 271 feet in order to reach a full stop. An 80,000 pound semi tractor-trailer traveling at 60MPH will take 426 feet to stop! The size of a semi rig makes it appear that it is moving slower than it really is. Years ago I had an elderly lady pull right out in front of me and I barely got the rig stopped before crashing into her. Shaken, she stopped and got out of her car and profusely apologized for her actions. Do you know what she said to me? She stated that she thought since I was an 18 wheeler, that I had 18 brakes! This shows the education of the general public.

Truck driving careers must continually include the truck driver training skills needed in this important aspect of our economy. The training and skills fall upon the professional driver. The general public is not going to take the time to educate themselves about the mechanics of a tractor-trailer. To the public, I would advise that when you see a large truck tailgating another vehicle, call the police and report them. They are a danger to you and me. Here are some facts from 2005, the latest year available:

  • Large trucks involved in fatal crashes - 4,932
  • Fatalities resulting from these crashes - 5,212
  • Non-fatal crashes - 139,772
  • Injuries in crashes - 91,824

With Summer coming and school out, professional drivers must, as always, be ready and willing to be extra cautious and drive safely. Keep your following distance and remember that the family in the car ahead of you, could be your own.

Laminate Flooring - Cleaning & Maintenance

One of the biggest advantages of laminate floors is that they are made to look good for many years with a minimum of effort. Most laminates come with a 10 to 25 years residential warranty against staining, wearing and fading, depending on the brand. All you really need for cleaning are a vacuum cleaner, a dry mop and a damp towel for more difficult stains. Laminates are built to stand up to wear, but to keep them looking like new, here are a few recommendations.

Be aware that large pieces of sand or rock can cause visible scratching. These are usually easy to catch by having floor mats and foot brushes at outside doorway entrances. Dirt which gets pass the mats and brushes can cause invisible scratching that eventually leads to dullness. So, vacuum and mop regularly to keep grit off the floor. For dry cleaning, vacuuming is usually sufficient. Microfiber pads are also quite effective and, if available, lets you avoid involving fluids. Never clean with abrasives, scouring powder or steel wool.

Damp clean laminate flooring using a vinegar or ammonia-based solution. For example, you can pour 1/4 cup of vinegar into a 30 to 32 ounce empty spray bottle filled with plain water for a quick solution. Then, dampen a terry mop or a Swiffer with water and mop, spraying the floor as you go along. When damp mopping, avoiding standing fluids so you do not saturate the floor. Wipe immediately! Other possible cleaning fluids that have been suggested include:

- vinegar, rubbing alcohol, and water (equal parts)

- 1/3 white vinegar, 1/3 rubbing alcohol, 1/3 water, and 3 drops dishwashing liquid (1 quart total)

- Swiffer WetJet wood floor cleaner

- Windex

Here are some tips on spot cleaning:

To remove oil, paint, permanent marker, tar, rubber heel marks, use a neutral cleaner on a clean light colored cloth. If needed, use alcohol or a nail polish remover containing acetone. To remove blood, fruit juice, wine, beer, soda pop, pasta sauce, use warm water. If needed use a neutral cleaner on a light colored cloth. To remove candle wax or chewing gum, first harden with ice and then scrape very gently. Wipe the rest with warm water on a clean light colored cloth.

If your laminate is scratched, see if you can buy a touch up stick from your manufacturer. The area you repair will look, hold up to traffic and wear just like the rest of the laminate floor.

In case of more severe damage, which is unlikely to take place in most of the homes, a trained professional can be called to replace a plank. The new plank should be almost indistinguishable from the rest, if done properly.

The Importance Of Business Marketing

If considering starting a new business, people should definitely be informed about the importance of business marketing. An individual can invent the most magnificent product on the market but without effective business marketing the product sales may never reach their potential. A new business should begin marketing their product immediately at start-up and continue to do so year round. If aspiring to make the business successful, whether its a seasonal business or not, the owner should market their product all year long.

Business marketing, if carried out in the right way, is a huge sales tool for any business, new or old. Its is essential to prepare a marketing plan. To be successful, the plan needs to be well thought out and prepared before putting into motion. First of all, before sharing their product with the world, the businessperson needs to know exactly what they are selling. Not only do they need to know their product inside and out, they also should know how to present it to the public as a product they might be interested in. Marketing a home appliance for example, the consumer is interested in what the appliance can do for them, how buying this item will benefit them. Effective business marketing insures the consumer will recognize the benefits of a product from the way it is advertised.

In preparing a business marketing plan the owner should be looking for their targeted audience. Every product is made for someone or something. In thinking about marketing a product, the individual should be interested in finding methods of attracting the targeted audience using different vehicles of advertising such as magazines, newspapers, radio, television, etc. For example if the product was a new ladys perfume, smart business marketing would advertise this product in womens magazines, in TV commercials on a womens network, etc.

Business marketing is extremely crucial if hoping to be successful in any business. Competition is a factor in every market no matter which kind of business people choose to go into. To insure a product is recognized over a similar product, the individual must be creative and use methods that will convince consumers their product is best for them. Competitive markets are difficult and require plenty of work and effective business marketing if anticipating positive results. A product without proper advertisement will definitely fall by the wayside, going unnoticed and unsold. Taking the necessary time to prepare a solid business marketing plan is important and just might be the difference in a thriving business and going bankrupt.

BMETs Now Need More Education

Biomedical equipment technicians or BMETs represent an expanding group of technically trained personnel whose main responsibility is the maintaining and repairing equipment that deals with medical imaging such as x-ray, CT scanners, ultrasound, MRI, laser technology and so on. The job outlook for BMETs seems to be improving as quickly as newmedical imaging equipment} is coming out.

The need for BMETs is growing. The increase is due to the growth in new equipment used for medical imaging and technologies that require BMET expertise, and, by the need for revenue by institutions that have medical imaging equipment. As institutions like hospitals recognize that downtime on a piece of medical imaging equipment affects revenue generation, there is pressure to add BMETs to hospitals to ensure that every piece of medical imaging equipment is maintained in working order so that costly service contracts are used as minimally as they can be. The U.S. Department of Labor and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Imaging (AAMI) think that the number of jobs available as a BMET in the US will increase 24 percent to 31 percent up through the year 2010.

Not that long ago, BMETs were trained on the job. But, as equipment for medical imaging knowledge has advanced, so has the need for consistent, quality training. Now, most BMETs have obtained an Associates degree in medical imaging technology, electronics or an engineering-related field. Recently an experiment by the AAMI discovered that 62% of all BMETs journeyed on to voluntarily become certified by the International Commission on Accreditation. ICC Certification for BMETs is a formal recognition by the International Certification Commission for Clinical Engineering and Biomedical Technology (ICC) that candidates have shown excellence in theoretical as well as knowledge of the principles of biomedical technology.

The BMET job description keeps evolving and, as it changes, the educational requirements have started to increase also. The BMET profession has started to walk the trail of lots of other professions both in and out of the medical field where increasingly more schooling is required to serve in a job and/or excel inside a job category.

BMETs say that those who employ them are starting to make one have bachelors degrees for advancement to a higher rank or in some situations simply to be a BMET inside some institutions. While this requirement might limit the job options for few BMETs serving right now, the great news is that increased educational requirements creates the chance for greater salaries. Studies have determinedshown|found out} that entrance salaries for BMETs are from $20,000-$30,000. However, higher positions can command salaries as good as $80,000. The future appears bright for future salary growth in this field.
